Blizzard announced today that World of Warcraft, its subscription-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), is now being played by more than 9 million gamers around the world. World of Warcraft made its debut in North America on November 23rd, 2004. The game was the best selling PC game of 2005 and 2006. World of Warcraft is available in seven different languages. It’s played in North America, Europe, China, Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. At yesterday’s WWDC07 conference, Steve Jobs and Electronic Arts have revealed new games coming to the Mac. EA will release several key titles for the Mac this summer. They are include Command & Conquer 3, Battlefield 2142, Need for Speed Carbon, and Harry Potter. Id Software also revealed their next gen game engine at WWDC, showcasing some pretty interesting new technology.

Activision and Infinity Ward have officially announced the availability of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The game will offer players various war zone experiences including “fast-roping from Blackhawk helicopters”, being a “sniper, under concealment, in a Ghillie suit miles behind enemy lines” and “engaging hostiles from an AC-130 gunship thousands of feet above the battlefield.” Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare will be released for the PC, Sony PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this Fall.
