I can’t believe it! The Nintendo DS will soon be able to play music. How is this possible? Using a special cartridge that can accept SD memory cards, the console will locate and play MP3 files. The player will come with a 512MB SD card, but you can use larger capacity card. Unfortunately, video files are completely incompatible.

This special function will also be available for the Game Boy Advanced and the Game Boy Micro, and looks like it will lead to a complete repackaging of the DS as we know it.

Pokemon Daisuki Club and Nintendo Japan released the Pokemon Theme Nintendo DS Lite. This special edition of DS Lite has four Pikachiu pictures drawn on the top of the cover. It comes with a Pokemon mini game and some quiz. This Nintendo DS Lite is a limited edition since only 150 units are in production. Pokemon Theme Nintendo DS Lite will be available from September 1st. No info on pricing and availability yet.

Nintendo launched the limited edition of Final Fantasy III themed Nintendo DS Lite. Square Enix the publisher of Final Fantasy III will be selling the bundle package which includes the game and a crystal white Nintendo DS. The Nintendo DS features a special artwork by the legendary Akihiko Yoshida on top of the system. The unit goes on sale in Japan on August 24th for 22,780 Yen or around $ 200 and the game for 5,980 Yen or about $ 52.
