Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has announced the upcoming release of its 40GB PS3 featuring a metallic design and a satin silver color. The satin silver PS3 should drop in March in Japan.

Supposedly T3 said, that there will be a slim PS3 in quarter 3 or quarter 4. So far, there’s no word on specs or pricing, but here’s some pics to cure your slim PS3 craving. More pics after the break.

Some inside sources have indicated that Best Buy is going to discontinue the 80GB version of the Sony PS3, which is the only current version to have backwards compatibility. The 40GB PS3 is the most affordable at $400, and the White PS3 is slated for US release, but the future is uncertain for the 80GB Version. Check the note after the break.

Some recent info on the FCC website reveals that the much anticipated White Sony PS3 will be coming to US shores soon. It’ll feature a matching white sixaxis controller and a 40GB hard drive. The slick white glossy shell is likely to be more appealing than the current black shell.
